THE WORLD’S GREATEST ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENT. THE 8′ HIGH JUMP.
The high jump is considered the most difficult event in track and field. A few select athletes are hovering around 7′ 10″. 60 years ago in 1956, Charles Dumas leaped over the bar and was the first man to clear 7′ Only one has cleared the mythical 8′ barrier, and that was over 20 years ago.
Javier Sotomayor is the first and ONLY man to ever high jump over 8′. Exact height was 8′ 1/2″. Next time you look at a door opening, imagine… lifting your whole body over it. Most doors are 6′ 8″ tall, think 8′ and you will understand just how impossible it is.
