D DAY: JUNE 6, 1944
D DAY: Today, June 6, is the 73rd anniversary of the WWII landing at Normandy, France. It was and still is the largest amphibious invasion in history.
160,000 Allied troops landed on five different beaches. Sword, Gold, Utah, Juno, & Omaha beaches, names that are indelibly etched in history and in our minds.
4413 Allied troops lost their lives on June 6, 1944. The average life expectancy of a 2nd Lieutenant, the ones who led the men off the LST’s, was 22 seconds.
Let us pause and give thanks to those who gave their last full measure of devotion for our country. God bless them.
